Happy Thanksgiving Treats!

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we wish you the happiest of holidays. Despite a rough year and a half, we all truly do have a lot to be thankful for. Susie's family celebrated two weddings & Wendy's youngest got engaged. LucyBlue is taking off like gang busters and we couldn't be more excited. Just yesterday we got a huge wholesale order from Amsterdam! As you enter Thanksgiving 2021 week, take some time to be thankful even though it's been a rough haul. Being grateful for what we have turns what we have into enough.

Because we have officially hit the holidays, Susie and I thought we would share the BEST pumpkin bread recipe EVER! We grew up with this recipe, and have shared it with our kids. And yes, it really is that good!

We're also offering some conversation starters we've gleaned from several sources online so you can facilitate meaningful dialogue among friends and family as you gather around the table. (It'll also help steer the conversation away from those hot button topics!)

First, the recipe. By the amounts below, it's clear this makes multiple loaves and muffins, so feel free to halve it or double it to suit your needs.

World's Best Pumpkin Bread 3 cups sugar 4 eggs 1 cup oil 1 large can of pumpkin 1 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 heaping teaspoons cinnamon 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg 2/3 cup water 3 1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda

Mix wet ingredients and add dry ingredients. Stir until mixed. Bake in greased loaf pans or muffin tins at 350 degrees (loaves: bake approximately 1 hour 10 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean, muffins: 20–25 minutes, also testing with a toothpick).

Food isn't the only thing that makes Thanksgiving memorable. Cultivating deeper connections with those who join you for turkey and all the trimmings is what, in our opinion, makes the holiday deeply meaningful. Since conversation can be stilted among those who don't see one another regularly, so here are some questions to get everyone talking.

If you could have named yourself, what name would you have picked?

Pretend you just won $5 million dollars. What charity you would support and why?

What lesson have you learned this year that you're thankful for?

If you could eat only one food on this table for an entire year, which one would it be?

What is the one thing we do as a family that you really love?

Which person here do you wish you knew better?

What qualities make someone a good friend?

What book have you read this year has been most impactful?

How did you celebrate Thanksgiving when you were my age?

What was your favorite thing about where you grew up?

What one thing did my mom/dad do when they were my age that drove you crazy?
